An unusual year!

2020 has been a year of hardships, economic challenges, anxiety, triumph, new opportunity and even death. Humanity has shared a common enemy – an invisible global threat, commonly referred to as COVID-19. This virus has changed our lives, the way we commune with family and friends and the way we interact with co-workers. Many suggest the world will never be the same. They’re right! However, one must appreciate that the world and its inhabitants are always evolving. History certainly has proved this throughout the centuries as humanity has battled diseases and natural disasters and endured. It is with this sense of resilience and the knowledge that life as we know it will go on, albeit differently, that we look to 2021 as a year of promise, possibility and purpose. We do not know the time or hour that we will transition from this life. Death will come to all of us at some point in our lives. We are assured of that reality. Therefore, let us commit ourselves to live lives that are filled with purpose driven action. Everyday, no matter how small, let us attempt to positively impact someone’s life. Let us also embrace the belief that you have to take care of yourself before “fixing” the world’s problems. That means, living healthier, happier lives. It isn’t as easy as it may seem, it requires action, commitment and a will to persevere. Instead of New Year’s resolutions, let’s make a lifelong resolution, to uplift our souls, improve our physical beings and make a positive contribution to the advancement of humankind. After all, in the poignant words of Orlando Bloom in the movie, Kingdom of Heaven “what man is a man, who does not try to make the world better”.
